The cartoon I have found that centers around Little Red Riding Hood is about the issue of internet privacy and social media. The background is a dense forest and the characters of the wolf and Little Red Riding Hood are on a path through the forest. The two characters are facing each other and the wolf is saying “Hi- I’m one of your Facebook friends”. Little Red Riding Hood is in her unique red cap and cloak holding her basket presumably on her way to Grandma’s. The wolf is a lot taller and bigger than Little Red Riding Hood, his sharp teeth are clearly visible, his tongue is out of his mouth, he is standing on his hind legs and he seems to be holding one hand/paw out to her. The dialogue from the wolf is the main clue as to what the cartoon is about.

A basic interpretation of what the cartoon is about is how easily bad people (the wolf) can have access to important or sensitive information about internet users (Little Red Riding Hood). The wolf is able to intercept Little Red Riding Hood on her way to Grandma’s which could be down to what he knows about Little Red Riding Hood off Facebook. The Wolf also uses being Facebook friends as a way of introducing himself and as a way of encouraging Little Red Riding Hood to put her guard down because they are already “friends”. Being Facebook friends is something a lot of people don’t think that much about, when they get a friend request they accept it and a majority of the time they don’t know who it is they are accepting. When Facebook first started out and even nowadays people think of these social media platforms as a popularity contest and so whoever has the most friends, likes or follows is winning. Therefore people tend not to screen closely those they let into their internet lives. This issue can be considered both social and political. Many consider it a political issue as more laws are needed on the internet to regulate and control how much information people can obtain from others. It can also be considered a social issue as internet users are also abusing the power of the internet and social media to fuel their own agendas. It really depends on who people hold accountable for the lack of protection users have on the internet and social media.
